Junior Health Careers Workshops
Please Note: The workshop format in 2011 will be changing! No further workshops have been scheduled at this time. Please watch this space for further information for 2012.
The Junior Health Careers Workshops were previously offered to Year 9 students in rural and remote Queensland. Attending the workshop will allow a student who is interested in the health industry to gain exposure to the variety of careers available and the study pathways. This will also assist students when choosing their senior career subjects at the end of Year 10. The workshops are funded by Queensland Health and coordinated by the Cunningham Centre - Southern Area workforce unit.
The main objective of the workshops is to provide students with further understanding of the health career pathways available in Queensland.
The workshop programs provide information on:
- the types of jobs available in the health industry in Queensland;
- health courses available at universities throughout Queensland;
- tertiary entrance requirements including OP's, prerequisites, costs etc;
- life while at TAFE and university
- working and studying, accommodation and the support services available; and
- personal and professional career development.
Students are given the unique opportunity to tour the local hospital and tertiary institute campuses. There is time allocated for hands-on demonstrations and numerous information sessions from various health professionals currently working in the industry.
From Thursday Island to Goondiwindi and everywhere in between!
