The Indigenous Health Careers Workshops are offered to Year 10 students of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage across Queensland. The workshops are funded by Queensland Health and coordinated by the Cunningham Centre - Southern Area Workforce Unit.
The main objective of the workshops is to provide students with a further understanding of the health career pathways available in Queensland.The workshop program provides information on:
- the types of jobs available in the health industry in Queensland;
- health courses available at universities throughout Queensland;
- tertiary entrance requirements including OP's, prerequisites, costs etc;
- life while at TAFE or university;
- working while studying, accommodation and the support services available;
- personal and professional career development.
Students are given the unique opportunity to tour the local hospital and tertiary institute campuses. There is time allocated for hands-on demonstrations and numerous information sessions from various health professionals currently working in the industry.
From Bamaga to Quilpie and everywhere in between!
HCB Workshops are open to students in rural and remote Queensland only. In 2007 and 2008, 40 Indigenous students participated in HCB Indigenous Health Careers Workshops.
