Rural Health Clubs in Queensland
The Rural Health Clubs in Queensland are student-led organisations that exist to promote rural health practice to a multi-disciplinary group of enthusiastic members. The clubs are funded by the Australian Government and members include students of medicine, nursing, dentistry, oral health, speech pathology, physiotherapy, podiatry, occupational therapy and many more!
Each club organises a calendar of events that is designed to expose members to rural health experiences. These experiences include rural trips, clinical skills sessions, rural conference attendance, Indigenous health awareness, networking activities, guest speaker sessions, and fund-raising events. There are also many opportunities during the year where the four Queensland clubs get together to meet their peers from other universities.
Throughout the year there are also many barbeques and socialising activities in addition to the academic events above. Joining a club is a great way to meet people from rural areas of Queensland interested in health.
As well as these events, club members have the opportunity to participate in the Health Careers in the Bush program by becoming a facilitator of a Rural High School Visit or a mentor on a Health Career Workshop. We hope that rural school students who have participated in a HCB activity while they were at school, will then go on to join a Rural Health Club and, in turn, promote careers in health to the rural school students of the next generation.

If you join one of the Rural Health Clubs when you are at Uni, then you automatically become part of this Australia wide network of clubs in the other states. Being part of this network means you will have access to conference attendance subsidisation and networking events where you will be able to meet like-minded students from all over Australia!
